Three new arrangements - and a thank you.

News 27.01.2020, 14:50

I have today put up three new arrangements of the Welsh lullaby "Suo Gan" They are for String quintet/Orchestra, Wind Quintet and Clarinet quintet. Where the thanks comes in is in reference to the speed with which the guys at MusicaNeo are working because all three arrangements were on the site in minutes! Thank  you guys so very much! If youa ren't familiar with the tune, it was used to great (tear-jerking) effect in the film "Empire of the Sun". Despite this, it's worth noting that the ...

Catching up after the Christmas Holidays : Buon Capodanno, Bonne année, Frohes neues Jahr, Feliz año nuevسنة جديدة سعي

News 22.01.2020, 13:20

Welll, there's a load of new arrangements and compositions on the site as I'm putting up music that should have been done dueing December, but which I was far too busy playing to be able to manage. I recently discovered a new type of ensemble - apparently, Clarinet Quintet is a thing! So, obviously, I arranged some suitable pieces for that ensemble. Mostly it's Christmas music, but, now I know that such a thing exists, I'll be including it in my list of ensembles to arrange for and may even devote ...

Music for bassoon ensembles

News 29.08.2019, 17:22

I'm currently looking at all my quartet and quintet stuff and seeing what is suitable for bassoon ensembles - general double reed (with oboe and/or cor anglais) and just for bassoons ( with or without contra.) Check out the new arrivals. there's a bumch of Christmas music arriving as well as more general msuic for all purposes. Church groups will love the Byrd and Victoria settings of O Magnum Misterium. Whatever your preference, have a look at my arrangements of easy listening classics like ...

More carols on the way!

News 13.07.2019, 14:14

So, today I have posted a new arrangement, very simple, straightforward and, most of all, easy. There are versions for the following ensembles Brass Quintet, Wind Quintet, String Orchestra or String quintet (works well with either) and Saxophone Quintet. There's nothing flashy about this arrangement to detract from the lovely setting of Gruber's tune. This could find a place on any christmas concert programme. It's always a crowd pleaser and goes down well with the children. Enjoy!

12 Wassail Songs - Christmas already?

News 24.06.2019, 09:33

Well, it's June and, as everyone knows, Christmas is just around the corner! It's past the summer solstice so the nights are drawing in, as we say round here and so I present you with a collection of 12 Wassail songs - one for each of the 12 days of Christmas. All given my own special treatment without, I hope, changing their essential character. There are three versions, one for Brass Quintet (of course), one for String Quintet and one for Wind Quintet with some simple percussion parts added for ...

And doesn't time fly?

News 24.05.2019, 16:03

I haven't posted for a while because I have been ridiculously busy. However, here are three versions of my latest chamber piece. It's a set of three dances based loosely on the Allemande, Courante and Jygg. Although they are based on an old style dances, they are not pastiche, nor are they arrangements, these are all my own work The music works really well on almost any combination, though it seems better on one-or-two-to-a-part ensembles. I am not doing a brass arrangement of this as brass is way ...

New for the end of October!

News 30.10.2018, 13:15

I am currently writing some short, easy pieces for piano. The first two are out now - Afternoon and Evening Fugue. Neither piece is paticularly programmatic, but their titles derive from the time of day when they were written, so I suppose they could be said to reflect my feelings at that time. Both pieces are easy, but the fugue is, obviously, more demanding. Afternoon has only one note at a time in the LH and, mostly, two notes in the RH. The tempo is slow enough to make the music easy to ...

New music for July/August

News 22.10.2018, 10:17

Well, as it's my birthday today (31st July) what better way to celebrate than by releasing two brand new pieces of music composed this week. The first is a trio for 2 trumpets and trombone. The title is The 201 which, while enigmatic, is really rather simple to explain. I undertook this to comply with a call for scores where there was a requirement for 201, which I found out meant 2 tpts, 0 hns and 1 tbne! It's a very jolly piece, with plenty of work for all the players. The trombone is definitely ...

LMS sheet music and licences

News 29.09.2018, 12:46

Hi All. I've never been happy with the way MusicaNeo makes sales have limited licences. As far as I'm concerned, whenever I buy sheet music, whether it be for band or for myself, I automatically believe that I now own that copy of the music and I can play it for as many times as I like in perpetuity. My band has sheet music that is even older than I am and we keep bringing some of it out to go on the concert programmes on a fairly regular basis. I mistakenly set all my music to have a licence, ...

Christmas is HERE!

News 27.08.2018, 09:25

Well, it may only be August, but I have spent this month arranging a number of Christmas carols for brass quintet, Wind quintet and String quintet or string orchestra. In reverse order the list so far is: Christmas Interlude (Past 3 o'clock, The Gloucestershire Carol and Greensleeves) It Came Upon the Midnight Clear The Holly and the Ivy Away in a Manger God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen I Saw Three Ships Ding Dong Merrily on High This adds to my existing list of Christmas music, ...
