A delightful Welsh lullaby, set here for Clarinet Quintet (Eb, Bb x 3, Bass). There is a short intro, followed by the main melody, harmonised in the traditional way, then an interlude followed by two restatements of the theme on different instruments. Even the bass gets a look in. This beautiful melody would suit a quiet moment in any concert.
Apparently, an arrangement of this lovely Welsh folk tune was used in the film "Empire of the Sun" because the title sounds like the Japanese word "Shogun" - I kid you not! |
